Rafael Nadal beats Daniil Medvedev in US Open Final

It started so well for Nadal. After two won sets everything had already run here, many spectators thought. But the Russian did not give up defeated and proved a great fighter heart. With incredible effort, Medvedev took the next two games, and it was suddenly 2:2. Now the fifth set had to bring the decision, which Nadal decided 6:4 for himself.

Nadal wins the US Open title for the fourth time

The Spaniard Nadal fought down the Russian Medvedev with 7:5, 6:3, 5:7, 4:6, 6:4 in 5 sets in a thrilling final in incredible 4:50 hours and won the tournament for the fourth time. Now there are already 19 victories in one Grand Slam tournament and the next he could equal Federer.

Medvedev showed a mad fight

The young Russian went into the game motivated and full of self-confidence, by the way, his first Grand Slam Final. After the performances showed today, it will certainly not be his last. He wanted to make up for his defeat against Nadal of Montreal today, and you could tell that. He produced few mistakes and demanded everything from the Spaniard. Rafael Nadal had to give everything at almost every ball because Medvedev brought back the most improbable balls. However, the Spaniard’s many years of experience showed him a safer game over time. Especially his serves made the difference. With 7:5 and 6:3, Nadal won the first two sets.

Nadal seems to lose control in the next two sets.

In front of more than 20,000 visitors, and a top-class game developed, in which Medvedev won the favour of the spectators. But he had earned that with his great fighting heart on this day. But fantastic tennis was offered by both players. Medvedev now played riskily, his returns were dangerous, and Nadal was trying to keep the game calm. Rightly the sets three and four went to Nadal, and it was suddenly 2:2.

The fifth set brought the decision

At the beginning of the fifth set, Medvedev felt that it was possible to win today against Nadal. However, he could not turn his first breakpoint, and Nadal became stronger again. Soon it was 5:3 for Nadal, and he used his 3rd match ball to a big victory in an incredible final.
