The Oklahoma City Thunder gives the Minnesota Timberwolves little chance. A young star does historical things. Dennis Schröder, however, remains pale.
With the Oklahoma City Thunder, Dennis Schröder has celebrated another important victory in the battle for the NBA playoff.
OKC won against the Minnesota Timberwolves thanks to a good second half with 117:104.
Thunder owed this to their MIP candidate Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, who also had by far the best plus-minus balance of all players with +23.
No wonder – the only 21-year-old put up 20 points, 20 rebounds and ten rebounds against the Wolves – and that as a guard.
Gilgeous-Alexander even surpasses Shaq
The man with the nickname SGA is, according to the Elias Sports Bureau, the only guard in the past 30 years besides Russell Westbrook to have managed a triple-double with 20 points and 20 rebounds.
What’s more, regardless of position, he is the youngest player in NBA history to have achieved this. NBA legend Shaquille O’Neal held the old record.
“The coach spurred me on before the game that I should fill out the statistics sheet more and do more things. Like me, he thought I was capable of more than what I had shown so far,” Gilgeous-Alexander said after the game.
Gallinari shines – Schröder remains pale
The best pitcher at OKC was Danilo Gallinari with 30 points. Also, Center Steven Adams achieved a double-double with 13 points and eleven rebounds.
The German national player Schröder remained rather pale. Although he contributed 14 points to the victory, he only scored five of his 14 attempts from the field, and it was only enough for one assist.
On the other side, the Timberwolves had to do without Karl-Anthony Towns. Also, Andrew Wiggins did not get his best day with ten points on twelve attempts. With -22 he also had the weakest plus-minus balance of all players.
OKC consolidated seventh place in the Western Conference. In contrast, the Timberwolves in twelfth place are lucky that no team behind the top seven is really making an impact and claiming the eighth place for themselves.
Theis missing – LeBron overruns his ex-team
National player Daniel Theis was not available to the Boston Celtics due to knee problems. But even without the centre, the record champion won 113-101 against the Chicago Bulls.
Superstar LeBron James (31 points) scored a 128-99 victory over his home club Cleveland Cavaliers with the Los Angeles Lakers. James now has a 14-1 record against his ex-team Cleveland.
