What are Case Chips ?

One names for the chips that players have in poker, is case chips. How does it differ from the others? As poker players will make their bets, their chips will diminish. The final few chips in their stack are referred to as the case chips.

Case Chips Explained

A case chip and a case card have quite similar definitions, whereby they refer to the last remaining item of each.
A case card is considered the last remaining card of any type left in the deck. While case chips, on the other hand, are the final chips that players have remaining.
An example of how the term is used is shown below:

  • Lucas: Why didn’t you raise your bet?
  • Michael: I couldn’t because I was right down to my case chips.

Poker players who are down to their case chips can typically resort to questionable tactics and strange betting behaviour. With the hope of ‘bringing home the bacon’, they always end up losing the rest of their chips within a blink of an eye.

For instance, if individuals have been experiencing a stressful losing streak due to poor play, not only can they make irrational and expensive decisions, but they can also lose their case chips easily. In this situation, it’s best to pause and take a deep breath, before considering the best move. Most importantly, don’t rush and panic.

Sometimes, players go all in when they reach their case chips to leave the game.

There are ways to maintain high amounts of chips during play. One effective way in doing this is to play it safe. In each round of betting, a few chips are enough. This strategy can be perfect for your situation. However, it depends. Your gameplay tactics should change according to your situation and expectations. In fact, the second way to maintain high levels of chips is to take risks. You can bet a lot of chips, if you’re doing it right. When you’re lucky and apply your expertise as a poker player, you can make identical bets or raises in real time. Plus, winning all the chips back is possible. Then, you can cash out a big sum of money within a short period of time.

However, it’s best to start from betting a few chips. While the chance of financial gain is high, the game will be more fun and intense in no time.
