What Is a Calling Station ?

In the game of Poker, ‘calling the station’ is a common term being used to describe a passive player.

During gameplay, passive players often didn’t tend to make a raise and most likely would call more than what they have. This type of player appears to be low in experience and skill. Thus, they call more bets regardless of the amount they have at hand. In some case, because of this behavior, they are more likely to lose more money and be kicked out of the game.
Another term for this player is called ‘policeman’. This type of player is given those names because it is said that they rarely bluff.

Calling Station Explained

Players who are said to be Calling Stations are said to hardly ever win in a Poker game. There are two reasons: one, they lose their opportunity to become a winner and secondly, their opponents saw them as an “easy one” to be extracted with money. They may be that passive type of player, but they have the means to bet for more. However, their betting strategy rarely guarantees them a win.

Since there is difficulty in winning a game, they shouldn’t chase those cards that are not giving them the vibe to score a win. So, they would be avoiding them to have more of those costly calls.
Raising is one of the strongest strategies known to be commonly used across various casino games. If you are the person who raises the most, the odds of winning is all upon you. On the other hand, it is not the same as with the case of Calling Stations. Their attempt to hit more cards and to out-draw their opponents doesn’t even help. Their strategy of being reluctant in raising their bets is the main reason that quickly dragged them down in the game.

The possibility of the game may mostly be upon these Calling Stations, but not all the time. At times, they are also granted with the possibility of winning. It may happen because they have upped their skill or that luck was upon them during the game. Everyone hopes that these players would realise the best strategy to win the game.

For those players who were to challenge law enforcement officers or Calling Stations, don’t be too mean and showy that you have the upper hand. Instead, adopt a better strategy to play confidently with strong hands and not place a bet on marginal hands. But if you became passive in the game, then you can already be referred to as Calling Stations.
