What is Burn Card ?

If you play Omaha hold ‘em or Texas hold ‘em. Maybe you have encountered a burn card. A burn card is not as complicated as you think. It is just a playing card that’s taken from the top of the deck. Then, it is discarded and not used by any of the players at the table.

Burn Card Explained

A burn card is used for many reasons. The most common is to avoid any act of card counting. A burn card is typically found at the top of the table. But it only happens when someone can read its markings.

As a rule, a burn card is placed face down on the table. This is done so that none of the players can see it. This can be a disadvantage to players, especially when the card is an ace, however this is challenging for all players.

Another purpose is to provide some extra cards when something goes wrong during the game. If a player does not deal with a card correctly, it will become a burn card. Then, everyone can see it.
For those avid fans who deal at a poker table, the chance of burning the cards regularly is higher than expected. Before you deal with the flop, it is necessary to burn a card first. While it can be hard, it becomes easy as time goes on.

Another burn card is in play before the turn. That’s why the hand should reach the river to burn the third card successfully. This is very important as it helps to avoid developing a pattern of cards throughout the game.

Recently, the burn card transmitted to the viewers during a televised poker tournament. But with the delayed coverage and constant technological advancements used in the World Series of Poker, the trend is no longer available.

Playing poker can be tough, especially for beginners. But the knowledge with the correct understanding of the terms and rules, everything is possible. Practice makes perfect. Spend time to study the game. That way, you can achieve more than you might expect. Enjoy!
