Fortnite World Champion Bugha and G2 Esports clear the dust

Fortnite world champion Kyle “Bugha” Giersdorf is one of the big winners of the Esports Awards 2019, but the protagonists in the League of Legends have been the ones who have won the most.

Germany’s FIFA 19 World Champion Mohammed “MoAuba” Harkous is surprised at his rookie status.

Double success: The reigning Fortnite World Champion Kyle “Bugha” Giersdorf was named Esports PC Player and PC Rookie of the Year on Saturday. At the Esports Awards 2019 in Arlington, Texas, he was one of the winners of the evening. In the first category, League of Legends pro Luka “Perkz” Perković and CS:GO legend Oleksandr “s1mple” Kostyliev took second and third place respectively.

The League of Legends line-up of G2 Esports could not win the world championship a week ago. The team won the prize as the best eSports team of the year. The German coach of the team, Fabian “GrabbZ” Lohmann, is among the prize winners. In any case, the MOBA of Riot Games played a special role on this evening: Both the publisher and his game were rated best in their category.

The nominees

FIFA World Champion and veteran MoAuba ironically took third place in the Esports Console Rookie of the Year category. The nomination for the category was also astonishing for the ex-Bremer. After all, MoAuba has been under contract with professional teams since 2016.

The Berlin eSports agency Freaks 4U Gaming narrowly missed the podium: The company came fourth among the Esports Supporting Agencies of the Year.

What are the Esports Awards?

The Esports Awards have been presented since 2016 and honour the most influential people, games, teams and organisations. Virtually anyone can be nominated for an award. The finalists will then be selected by a jury, which will then be elected online by the public into the next phase.

A panel then selects the winners of the awards from among the winners of the online voting. In the event of a draw, the public vote is decisive. Past winners include Fortnite streamer Tyler “Ninja” Blevins, s1mple and Blizzard’s eSport title Overwatch.
