16 German-speaking Swiss cantons are launching a campaign to raise awareness of “Gambling Addiction” to sports betting. The focus is on football, where most bets are placed. With Köbi Kuhn and the support of various football clubs, a broad public they make the support of various football clubs the dangers of problematic betting behavior.
Gambling Addiction – Emotions, thrills, passion. Football fascinates many people both as a sport and as a betting offer. Figures show that major events such as the Football World Cup
attract many new gamblers to the betting offers. Sales of the sports betting market are growing. The downside: Some players lose control of their betting behavior, accumulate gambling debts and suffer from physical or psychological complaints. Relationships with family and friends or professional life can also become unbalanced.
With Köbi Kuhn in football stadiums
The awareness campaign launched draws attention to the risks of problematic behavior in sports betting. It appeals to an audience with an affinity for football. Köbi Kuhn is a well-known personality as a football ambassador. A video clip produced with him makes the enthusiasm for football palpable and, with the story of a person affected, also addresses the problems when the betting frenzy takes over. With the support of six German-Swiss Super League clubs, they will show the spot will in football stadiums and with immediate effect on live television and online broadcasts.
Online offers with increased addiction potential If sports betting becomes the central purpose of life and the occupation with it is concealed from others, these are typical symptoms of problematic betting behavior. Those affected do not see sports betting as a game of chance. Instead, they attribute the prospects of winning to their skills, because they deal intensively with the topic or with the corresponding statistics and tables. This is a fallacy, even for connoisseurs the prediction of a game result largely depends on chance. Sports betting is also gambling. They often place sports betting online
, which has an increased addictive potential. The offers are permanently available, they lose the reference to real money and social control is missing.
